I had hopes that I would have been able to keep up with this blog while I was at CHIC. But with the advent of a phone that decided to crash on me and some issues that need more of my attention I wasn't able to keep up as I had hoped. We are home as most of you know by now. It really was a interesting and wonderful week in so many ways. My message to students going in was be prepared that God was going to give you something to be a witness about. I think all of our students have something to be a witness about when it comes to God moving in their life. There was significant life transformation that has took place. I am beginning the process of posting pictures. Come visit them at http://www.flickr.com/photos/lccyg/
I will post reflections and thougths on this blog in the days to follow!

Day 2
As the kids are setting their heads on the pillow it is clear on campus that God is on the move. It was a powerful night. David Crowder did an incredible job putting on quite the performance and yet at the same time leading a intensely powerful worship service. Shane Claiborne articulated an important message about humility and radical love. Students spent quite a bit of time tonight thinking through their experience and digging deeper into the applications of the message into their lives. What does it mean to live out the radical love of Jesus. I feel like students continue to be wowed by this CHIC experience. Main stage is clearly one of the favorite experiences of the day. You know that big things are happening when Sarah Nikkel, a wonderful young women, but normally quite shy is willing to go down to the "human pit" of people praising God next to the stage. The kids are tired and I pray that they get the rest they need for tomorrow.
Here is an idea of the activities our kids participated in.
A base camp experience that led students to consider the image they have of themselves
A focus group that helped students think about relationships and lust free living!
An afternoon of frisbee, pool time, soccer, bracelet making, shopping, reading, and much more
An block party after dinner and a multi-cultural experience at the African Amercian study center
And an amazing worship service and teaching time!
These days are full!!!!
We look forward to tomorrow.

Day One in the books
As the kids head to bed we conclude a very successful first day! The bus rolled in 30 mins early to LCC, we were out of the parking lot even a bit early. We did make a few stops on the way down, but all in all it was an uneventful day. We found a great restaurant tonight for dinner called the firehouse which had great sub sandwiches! We concluded the evening with frisbee in the courtyard and a worship service with Winettka, Hinsdale and Libertyville. It was a fun evening and I think the kids are in real good spirits. All the kids are healthy and the leaders seems to be energized!
thank you for your prayers.
Tomorrow we go white water rafting!!!!

We just had our second fast food meal....arteries are restricting as I type! Kids in a good mood, but clearly anxious to get there. The frequency of "how much longer" is starting to increase! Cutest thing so far was john and troy sleeping with john's head on troy's shoulder! Still have a ways to go!!!

Your invited to follow our story
As students finish their last minute packing we invited you all to visit our sight frequently over the next week as you will see pictures, stories and much more from CHIC 2009. We are excited to see what God does and are confident that he is going to show up in big ways!
Shoes
I have had a few questions about shoes and white water rafting. My suggestion would be if you dont have water shoes is to wear an old pair of sneakers that you wont might getting wet. So make sure you are packing some sort of close toed shoe for your rafting experience!
Devotional thoughts for Today (the day before we leave)
1 Cor 3:6-9
6I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. 7So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. 8The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. 9For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, God's building.
I am excited to be apart of God's fellow workers when it comes to CHIC, but just as we are hours away from our departure time I am more excited to realize that God is the agent that makes change in peoples live. My phrase of the week is going to be this: "Keep your eyes open" God is going to move and do some amazing things in students lives and I just pray that our students "keep their eyes open" to see God move in their life!
Get excited!

Money at CHIC
SO how much money should I bring to CHIC?
This is a question that each Student needs to work out with their parents, but here are items to consider.
Meals that are not covered by CHIC
Saturday Lunch (on the way to CHIC)
Sunday Breakfast (while at CHIC- probably stop at a McD)
Friday Lunch (on the way home)
Gift Shop at CHIC
and thats about it....there isn't a ton more that students could or would want to buy. (except for the occasional beverage at a bus stop)
Good luck students!

Excursions!
88 Days – White Water Rafting
One of the many excursion opportunities at CHIC 2009 is whitewater rafting. Rafting on the Pigeon River, located in the heart of the Smoky Mountain is a great trip for everyone, and no experience is necessary. Offered Monday through Thursday.
If you have rafting experience and want a more challenging white water rafting trip, the Ocoee River is for you. The Ocoee River is one of the most popular rafting rivers in the nation and was the site of the 1996 Olympic whitewater competition. the Ocoee will only be offered on Sunday.

Monday July 6th (5 days out) Verse and Phrase of the Day
Acts 4: 13 "When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus."
Peter and John were witnesses to the trans formative power of Jesus in their lives. The result of their witness was that others took note that they had an association with Jesus. CHIC gives students a chance to experience in unique ways the trans formative power of Jesus in their lives. The hope then is that others take note when students come home that they too HAVE an association with Jesus.
"God will give you something to be a witness about."

Questions about CHIC
Hey if you have questions that you think other people might have...post them here (hit comments) and we will answer them as soon as possible!
Welcome to CHIC 2k9
It is hard to believe that in 5 short days we will be boarding a bus and traveling 600 miles to the University of Tennessee. Three years of brainstorming, praying, talking, listening have gone into this CHIC and I am excited to see where God takes it. This blog is meant to keep parents, friends and the Body of Christ (which we call LCC) up to date on what is happening and how God is moving at CHIC 2009. On this blog you will see links to pictures, video from before and during CHIC, weather updates and much more. We encourage you to visit this site daily for updates and encouraging stories.
